Single Bowl Kitchen Sinks
Single Bowl Kitchen Sink: One Big Bowl for Real Cooking
A single bowl kitchen sink gives one deep, wide bowl instead of two smaller ones, which is what a wok, a large pot or an oven tray actually needs. This category holds single bowl sinks in top-mount and undermount form, in pressed and handmade stainless steel, across a range of widths, plus workstation sinks with a ledge that carries a sliding board and a colander. Match the width to the cabinet, then choose the depth.

Buying guide
Choosing a Single Bowl Kitchen Sink
A single bowl kitchen sink fits more cabinets and more pots than a double, so settle the width and the depth first.
What to Look For in a Single Bowl Kitchen Sink
Width to cabinet. Single bowls run from around 450mm to 800mm overall. A 600mm base unit takes a sink of roughly 500mm; measure the inside of the cabinet and allow about 100mm.
Depth. Bowls of 200 to 230mm hide the washing-up and take a stock pot standing up. A shallower bowl is kinder to a tall person's back on a standard-height counter.
Workstation or plain. A workstation sink has a ledge inside the rim that carries a sliding board, a colander and a rack. In a small kitchen it works as a second counter. The ledge costs a little depth at the edges.
Steel and corners. Stainless steel 304, a thicker bowl, and tight handmade corners if the budget allows. The same rules as any kitchen sink; if the cabinet is 900mm or wider, a double bowl kitchen sink is also worth a look.
Taps, Accessories and Fitting
The tap. A kitchen faucet with a pull-out spray reaches the corners of a big bowl. A fixed spout must reach the centre of the bowl, and a tall spout over a shallow bowl splashes.
Accessories make it two sinks. A rinse basket and a drainer rack from the kitchen sink accessories give a single bowl a wash zone and a rinse zone when you need them, and disappear when you do not.
The waste. A basket strainer in a 40mm outlet. A filter tap needs a second hole in the sink or counter, so decide before cutting.
Fitting. The sink template goes to the counter fabricator before the counter is cut. Undermount needs a stone counter; top-mount suits laminate and is the easier one to replace later.
Common questions
Is a single bowl kitchen sink better than a double?
For a wok, a big pot and an oven tray, yes, because they lie flat in one wide bowl. For a two-stage wash and rinse, a double is more convenient. Most Malaysian wet kitchens are better served by one big bowl.
What size single bowl kitchen sink fits a 600mm cabinet?
A sink of about 500mm overall width. Measure the inside of the base unit and allow roughly 100mm for the sink's rim and the clips. Bring the cabinet size and we can confirm which models fit.
How deep should a single bowl kitchen sink be?
200 to 230mm for most homes. Deep enough to stand a stock pot and hide the washing-up, not so deep that a tall person stoops. If the counter is low, choose the shallower end.
What is a workstation sink?
A single bowl sink with a ledge inside the rim that carries a sliding chopping board, a colander and a drying rack. It turns the sink into prep space, which is useful in a small kitchen with little counter.
Can I get a single bowl sink undermounted?
Yes, under quartz, granite or solid surface, cut by the fabricator to the sink template. Under laminate, use a top-mount sink with a lip; the laminate edge cannot be sealed properly around an undermount.
Bring the base cabinet's inside width: it decides the sink before the style does.
