Bathroom Taps and Fittings
Bathroom Taps and Fittings for Every Outlet
Bathroom taps are chosen early and lived with for years, so this hub groups the plumbed fittings by where they sit: basin taps at the wash basin, bib taps and shower taps on the wall, bidet sprays beside the water closet, and pillar sink taps for the yard or wet area. Decide the mounting position first, then the finish, then the model. The pipe outlets go into the wall long before the tiles, and a tap bought late rarely matches them.

Buying guide
Choosing Bathroom Taps Before the Wall Is Closed
Bathroom taps are a plumbing decision first and a style decision second: fix the outlet positions, then pick one finish for the room.
What to Decide Before You Buy Bathroom Taps
Start with the outlet map. Walk the room with your plumber and list every point that will carry water: the basin, the shower, the bidet beside the water closet, a bath spout if there is a tub, and any yard or wet-kitchen sink. Each point takes a different tap. Basin taps, bib taps and shower taps, bidet sprays and double pillar sink taps are each a separate category here.
Cold only, or a mixer. Most Malaysian bathrooms run cold water at the basin and an instant heater at the shower, which means single cold taps everywhere except the shower. A mixer needs a hot feed at that point, from a storage or multipoint heater. If you want hot water at the basin, that is a plumbing decision, not a tap decision, and it belongs in the mixer taps category.
One finish for the whole room. Chrome, matt black, gunmetal, gold and rose gold each read slightly differently between makers, so the taps, the shower and the bathroom accessories should be bought together in one finish rather than collected over time.
Body material decides the lifespan. A brass body with a plated finish, or stainless steel, holds up in a humid bathroom. A zinc alloy body is lighter and cheaper and pits from the inside within a few years. Ask what the body is made of, not only what the coating is called.
Mounting, Pipe Positions and the Order of Work
Deck-mounted or wall-mounted. A deck-mounted tap stands on the basin or counter and only needs a tap hole and a flexible hose below. A wall-mounted tap needs its outlet set into the wall at the right height and the right distance from the basin before the tiler starts. If the wall is already tiled, a wall-mounted tap means hacking.
Concealed shower taps are fixed at first fix. A concealed mixer buries its valve body in the wall with only the plate and handle showing. It has to be in the wall, at the right depth for the finished tile face, before plastering. Exposed taps can be changed later; concealed ones cannot without opening the wall.
Put a shut-off at every point. An angle valve under each basin and bidet, and a stop valve on each bathroom's supply, turns a dripping tap into a ten-minute swap instead of a house-wide shut-down.
Check the pressure before choosing bathroom taps and heads. A condo on a pumped supply and a landed house fed by gravity from a roof tank behave very differently at the outlet. Rain shower heads and multi-function sprays want pressure; a gravity-fed upper floor may only manage a simple head. Your plumber can tell you the pressure at the point before you buy the tap for it.
Plan for hard water. Aerators and spray nozzles on bathroom taps clog with scale in parts of Malaysia. A tap with a removable aerator or rubber nozzles that can be rubbed clean will keep its flow; a fixed brass nozzle will not.
Common questions
What are bathroom tap fittings?
Bathroom tap fittings are the plumbed outlets in the room: basin taps, bib taps, shower taps and mixers, bidet sprays, bath spouts and the valves behind them. They connect to the water supply, which separates them from bathroom accessories such as towel rails and hooks, which carry no water and are screwed on after the plumbing is finished.
Which bathroom taps do I need for a condo bathroom?
A typical condo bathroom needs a basin tap, a bidet spray with its angle valve beside the water closet, and either an instant heater with its own hand shower or a shower tap with an arm and head. Add a bath spout only if there is a tub. Buy all of them in one finish so the room reads as one set.
Should I choose a cold tap or a mixer tap?
Choose a cold tap where there is no hot feed, which in most Malaysian homes is every point except the shower. Choose a mixer only where a storage or multipoint heater supplies hot water to that outlet. A mixer on a cold-only supply is paying for a handle you cannot use.
When should I buy the taps in a renovation?
Before the plumber's first fix, because the wall outlets are set to suit the tap. Wall-mounted basin taps, concealed shower mixers and bath spouts all need their positions and depths known before the wall is plastered and tiled. Deck-mounted taps and bidet sprays are more forgiving and can be confirmed later.
Which tap finish lasts longest in a Malaysian bathroom?
Chrome on a brass body is the proven combination for humidity and hard water. Coloured finishes such as matt black, gunmetal and rose gold last well when applied by PVD over brass or stainless steel and less well when painted or thinly plated over alloy. Ask how the finish is applied, and keep abrasive cleaners off all of them.
Can I replace a bathroom tap without hacking the tiles?
A deck-mounted basin tap or an exposed bib tap can be swapped without touching the wall. A wall-mounted tap or a concealed mixer usually cannot, because the connection is inside the wall. If you are choosing taps for a bathroom you do not plan to re-tile, keep everything exposed or deck-mounted.
Bring your plumber's outlet plan, or a photo of the existing tap, to the showroom and we can confirm the mounting type before you order.
