Question 1

What is a rain shower head?

Accepted Answer

A rain shower head is a wide, flat shower head fixed overhead on an arm, designed to drop water straight down over the whole body rather than spray it from the side. It is fed from a wall or ceiling outlet, either through a cold tap or through a mixer with hot water.

Question 2

What size rain shower head should I get?

Accepted Answer

The size the pressure can fill. Eight inches suits an ordinary supply and most condos. Ten inches and above want a pumped supply or a booster. On an upper floor fed by gravity from a roof tank, start small; a large head there feels like drizzle.

Question 3

Does a rain shower head work with a water heater?

Accepted Answer

With a storage or multipoint heater through a mixer, yes. With an instant heater, not well: the heater limits the flow and a large head turns it into a lukewarm trickle. If you have an instant heater and want a rain shower, the practical route is a cold rain head from a bib tap and the heater's own hand shower for warm water.

Question 4

Why is my rain shower head weak?

Accepted Answer

Either the pressure at the outlet is low, which is common on gravity-fed upper floors, or the nozzles are scaled. Rub the nozzles or soak the head in vinegar first. If it is still weak, the supply needs a pump, and no head will fix that.

Question 5

Round or square rain shower head?

Accepted Answer

Whichever matches the shower arm and the mixer plate. Round is easier to match across brands; square is the more architectural look. Either way keep the arm, head and any hand shower in the same shape and finish.

Question 6

How do I clean a rain shower head?

Accepted Answer

Rub silicone nozzles with a thumb to loosen the scale, or unscrew the head and soak it face-down in white vinegar for an hour, then rinse. Do it as soon as the spray goes uneven rather than waiting for nozzles to block.
